Liz Pascoe Vice Chair
Liz joined HTB Junior Band at the age of 9, having started out on Euphonium learning with the brass band at St Michaels school in Helston.
She joined the Senior Band on 3rd Cornet (aged about 13) when Ken Hamlod was MD. Liz moved to 2ndBaritone before playing 2nd Euphonium next to Kevin John, then back to Baritone before a short time on 2nd Horn over a 23-year period.
Liz married Martin (solo cornet and contest secretary) in 1995 and left HTB in 2006 as she wanted a break to do other things and left banding.
In 2014, Liz returned to banding and joined HTCB on Euphonium before re-joining HTB in 2015 on Ee bass.
Liz took on the co-ordination of the Patrons in 2016 and numbers have increased reatly due to her hard work and dedication.
At the AGM in April 2016, Liz was oted in as the Vice Chair filling the boots of long serving former chair /vice chair, Mr John Penauna. We wish Liz all the best in her role
Graham Carter. Secretary
Graham is unusual on the committee due to not having a long term brass band or even a Helston background. Although always enjoying listening to brass bands, he never felt the urge to learn. This has not dampened his enthusiasm in recent years though as he has followed his sons on their musical journey. Graham has 2 sons, the youngest of which, Shaun, plays 2nd Euphonium for the band. He has another son, Justin, who currently plays percussion for Roche Brass.
Graham has always taken an active part in the behind the scenes work, first as secretary at Illogan, Chairman at Heyl and now secretary at Helston as well as recently taking on the role of secretary for the successful annual solo and quartet contest. Graham is not a Helston lad but feels as though it may be his adopted town and he hopes to help the band for the foreseeable future.
Graham works as a Pastoral Support Manager at Pool Academy and says that working with the students there is very similar to working with the band.
I wonder what he means?
Ann Williams. Treasurer
Ann is a true Helston Town Band stalwart who works tirelessly on behalf of the organisation. She has been associated with Helston Band for as long as she can remember; her Dad played trombone in the band, whilst her Mum was a founder member of the Ladies Committee, which was formed in 1948. She was the Treasurer of the Committee for 21 years and for the last few years, Ann was Joint Treasurer with her.
Ann rejoined the Ladies Committee in 1982, when she married the much- missed Russell Williams; himself a hard- working Band Committee member and the father of Mark (our current First Horn) and Melanie, who both played in the band at that time.
After a couple of years, Ann was asked to become Treasurer of the Ladies Committee, a position she still holds to this day. In 2009, she also took on the role of Treasurer of the Band Committee.
In recognition of her devotion to the band, in 2012 Ann was very proud to be made a Life Member.
