Sean Sjoholm - Soprano Cornet |
Sean joined the band early in 2012 on Soprano from Porthleven Town Band. Sean has also played trumpet in the Jazz Orchestra at Helston School. Sean is also a keen cricketer, playing for the Helston Youth team. |
Philip Bennetts - Principal Cornet |
Philip has played with HTB for over 30 years and previously played Principal Cornet for Redruth. During his time with HTB, Philip has also played Flugel Horn. Philip's warm sound has earned him numerous solo prizes in the county. Philip is a local farmer. |
Ian Harvey - Solo Cornet |
Ian first joined the Senior Band in 1971 and became the band's Principal Cornet in 1978, a position he retained for many years. Ian also played for Camborne Town Band for one year, competing at the Masters at Cambridge and the National Finals at the RAH. Ian is a Postal Officer with Post Office Ltd. |

Kirsty Anderson - Solo Cornet |
Kirsty joined Helston Town Band in 2001 at the ripe old age of 6! She progressed though the beginner's band and into the Training Band. Kirsty joined the senior band in the summer of 2011 on third cornet to join three fellow family members. Kirsty has also played Flugel Horn for the band. |
Lowenna Thrussell - Repiano Cornet |
Lowenna is the Tutor of the Student Brass and Training Band. Officially, Lowenna only joined Helston Town Band in 2013, although since her family came across from Porthleven she has helped the band out many times. She started to play at the age of 8 with Porthleven Town Band and as a member of the Helston School Jazz Orchestra enjoyed tours to Malta and Spain. In the bandroom, she sits next to her Dad, Clive. |
Clive Christophers - Second Cornet |
Clive joined HTB from Porthleven Town Band in 2002, along with his wife Cynthia and was joined the following year by daughter Demelza. Clive is a director of a local engineering company in Porthleven, and also boasts a fine collection of birds (the feathered variety!!) His claim to fame is performing a cornet fanfare live on Channel 4's The Word. |
Russell Harvey - Second Cornet |
Russell is the longest serving member of Helston Town Band and had played continuously since first joining back in 1944. He has become well-known for his longevity and the band were extremely proud when, in his eightieth year, he received National recognition from Brass Band England for his unprecedented service. He has since received a special award from Gorsedh Cornwall, for his contribution to local music. Russell is a retired Postal Executive Officer. Whilst at school, he represented Cornwall at soccer and athletics and still enjoys running, coastal walking and he occasional pint of Spingo. Russell and Veronica have been married for 60 years. Their son, Ian, also plays in the band.

Martin Pascoe - Third Cornet & Contest Secretary |
The band’s Contest Secretary, Martin first joined HTB in 1963 and has also played with Torbay Brass and Teignbridge Band. Martin is married to Liz (Eb Bass) and they have a son, Matthew. He has been privileged to lead the Midday Dance on Flora Day. Martin is retired a Police Officer. |
Gavin Pascoe - Third Cornet |
Gavin joined HTB as a beginner in 1986, playing on his first Flora Day (aged seven) the following year, which at the time made him the youngest player. He then progressed his way through to the Junior Band, where he has also played Soprano, competing in a few contests with them. |
